Slashdot became famous with it, but Google has its own ways to send huge chunks of traffic to your website in a matter of hours. January 19 was Paul Cézanne‘s birthday which inspired Googles custom logo department to create the marvel below.
Google linked the new logo to a search for the keywords “Paul Cézanne”. This would mean that all Google users worldwide were prompted to search for the French artist. Lucky for us one of our main websites Artinthepicture.com was in first position in the image section for that particular query.

How was the result? Is the CTR from pictures the same as from normal search? A boost like that is always welcome.

Hi Nicky,
In this case CTR was impressive, but you should keep in mind that the topic (art) as well as the searcher (more a wandering visitor than an actual specific searcher) was perfectly suited for images.
Together with MSNBC ( http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/01/21/5892324-not-just-for-fun-google-doodles-drive-traffic-too ) we digged a little deeper into the statistics which also show the number of visitors Wikipedia received that particular day.
I now remember that I never actually made the blog post with the statistics yet. You can view some stats at http://thenextweb.com/google/2011/01/21/how-much-traffic-can-a-google-doodle-drive-to-your-site-this-much/ . I hope to write a follow-up soon.
